Research Interests
My background includes almost 10 years of cardiovascular related research and several years of selenium related research. I am primarily interested in studying cardiometabolic diseases, particularly those related to nutrition. This includes over-nutrition such as the high consumption of fructose or a high-fat diet, as well as nutrient deficiencies including selenium. Currently, I am focused on how selenium is metabolized by the heart and the mechanism by which selenium is acquired by cardiomyocytes, the main contractile cell of the heart.
