Research Interests
My research focuses on the development and application of novel computational and statistical methods for the accurate and efficient analysis of environmental DNA (eDNA) metagenomics and metabarcoding data. The overarching goal of my lab is to create robust computational methods that enable researchers to better understand biodiversity, ecosystem health, and the spread of pathogens. We are particularly interested in addressing the computational challenges presented by large-scale sequencing datasets. Our work has involved developing phylogeny-based methods for community profiling, assessing and improving tools for tracking variants of concern in wastewater, and creating new algorithms for clustering divergent nucleotide sequences. Ultimately, our research aims to advance the field of microbial research by providing more accurate and efficient tools for eDNA analysis, which can inform conservation efforts and public health initiatives.
