Research Interests
I am interested in how marine invertebrate larvae respond to metamorphic cues. The larvae of the polychaete Hydroides elegans sense inductive cues that are produced by microbial biofilms and respond by rapidly undergoing metamorphosis. The nervous system of these organisms is used to both sense an inductive cue and convey the metamorphic signal to other larval tissues. I am especially interested in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms that are used to coordinate and control this process.
