HARC 018 - An Open Label Pilot Study of the Safety and Tolerance of Slow-Release Niacin for the Treatment of Protease Inhibitor Associated Hypertriglyceridemia.  This study being developed by our pharmacist, Dr. Scott Souza, and our new co-investigator with the Hawaii ACTU, Dr. Dominic Chow, will look at the safety and tolerance of niacin when used for hypertriglyceridemia due to protease inhibitor use.  There are concerns regarding interaction with various anti-retroviral medications which will be looked at.  In addition, the extent of efficacy of niacin in the context of treatment for HIV-1 infection will be investigated.
