The Retrovirology Research Laboratory, a unit within the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii, is funded through a multi-million dollar infrastructure-development award from the Research Centers in Minority Institutions Program of the National Center for Research Resources (G12RR/AI03061). Its mission is to conduct multidisciplinary, collaborative research on the treatment and prevention of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection and on the pathogenesis of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), as well as to foster hypothesis-driven studies on new pathogen discovery and on new, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases which disproportionately affect Asians and Pacific Islanders. |
