On December 13, PBRC held its final All PBRC Meeting for 2013 at the Kewalo Marine Laboratory. At the meeting, many faculty and staff were recognized by Interim Director Dr. Alan Lau for their service to PBRC. Receiving a Service Award, which recognizes full-time faculty and staff who have reached milestones of 10 years or more, were Mr. Dave Au (40 years), Dr. Caroline Blanchard (40 years), Mr. Richard Chock (30 years), Dr. Brad Jones (20 years), Ms. Kathleen Souza (10 years), and Mr. Stanford Togashi (10 years). Each honoree received a special Service Award certificate and lei.
The special ceremony also honored two PBRC members who retired after more than 40 years of service. Dr. Michael Hadfield, Professor of Biology at Kewalo Marine Lab, retired in October 2013 after 45 years on the UHM faculty. Also, Mr. Ted Murphy, who headed the Békésy Neurobiology Lab machine shop for the past 22 years, retired in December 2013 after 47 years of service at UHM.
The meeting was followed by a PBRC Holiday Paʻina, celebrating the end of a challenging but successful year for PBRC.
