The main aim of my research interest is to investigate the macromolecular structures and processes underlying contractility and motility of muscle and animal cells. This interest includes a wide range of topics in biochemistry, structural biology, and fluorescence spectroscopy, such as the analysis of structure-function relationships, biomolecular interactions, and protein folding. I have also worked on computational modeling of the three-dimensional structures of different proteins involved in a variety of physiologically and pathologically important functions, specifically the dynein ATPase motor proteins of the AAA+ superfamily, rhodanese-like sulfotransferases, the TRPM7 ion channel, hantavirus nucleocapsid proteins, and GDE1, a novel mammalian glycerophosphoinositol phosphodiesterase. This line of research currently bears on docking simulations of newfound interactions between ornithine decarboxylase and sepiapterin reductase that regulate oncogenicity in neuroblastoma. In my continued commitment to biochemistry, I serve as the Editor-in-Chief of Biochemistry Insights. Visit the journal’s web page.
